About

Mission

Bringing expertise to correctional ministry through training, convening, and support.

Vision

Transforming individuals and communities through excellence in Christ-centered, correctional ministry.

History

The Correctional Ministries Institute (CMI), an institute of the Wheaton College Billy Graham Center, began as a result of the vision of Charles Colson and Kenneth Wessner.

In 1984, through the generosity of Kenneth and Norma Wessner and a longtime business partner, the Correctional Ministries Institute was established.

The Charles W. Colson Scholarship for formerly incarcerated individuals to attend Wheaton College was added in 1986.

Purpose

The primary purpose of the Institute is to improve and increase the knowledge and special skills of individuals who lead prisoners to repentance and faith in Jesus Christ, who disciple professing Christians in prison and following their release, and, who work to influence the criminal justice system to embody Christian principles.
